Lake Daniell Recount🚶

 Lake Daniell Recount

On Wednesday the 9th of september Room 8 went on the Lake Daniell tramp for a William Pike Challenge. A few days before the tramp we had to make a dlo explaining what hypothermia is so we knew how not to get it while tramping.

We had to travel in car groups all the way from Karoro school to the start of the Lake Daniell track which is in Lewis Pass. My car group was Tyler, Cooper, Flynn and Flynn’s dad.

There were 10 parents tramping through the beech forest with us. It took us about 2 hours and 50 minutes to get to the Kohanga Atawhai-Manson Nicholls hut. When we got to the lake we ate our lunch and checked out the new hut.

After that we got ready for the walk back to our cars.

I really enjoyed the walk back because we “accidently” had a massive moss fight by throwing moss at each other but we forgot about the Leave No Trace rule so there was heaps of moss everywhere but at least it was fun. On the way back there was lots of uphill parts so my legs got very sore and I think my classmates also got really sore legs. I was really surprised when I got so hot I had to take off my jacket and thermals. I was surprised because I didn't expect to get hot since it was only spring and we were tramping in the Southern Alps.

Once we got back to our cars we drove back to school. Overall I really enjoyed the tramp because we didn't have to do any school work and we don't usually go tramping.

Week 2 Silent Reading | Poems

Poetry - read at least ten poems and Write a paragraph about your favourite one.

My favourite poem that I read this week is called Washing Day by Anne English. I liked this poem the most because it had lots of good rhymes and its not too short. Another reason why I liked this one the most is because it actually made sense because a lot of the other poems I read didn't make much sense.

Washing Day

A washing machine

A sploshing machine

splish, splash, splosh

Whenever I use my washing machine

it splishes and splashes

all over the floor,

It splashes and sploshes

As far as the door.

I get into muddles

And step into puddles

I don't think i'll use it anymore

Week One Silent Reading | Picture Book

Picture Books: read at least three picture books from within the classroom. Write a paragraph about  your favourite book. Remember to include the storyline and the illustrations in your response.

One of my favourite books that I read last week was Badjelly The Witch. Which is about two kids that have to go on a journey to find their cow that went missing and on their way they meet enchanted forest creatures. Then they get captured by Badjelly The Witch then they get rescued by an eagle and then God intervenes when they escape and the witch gets destroyed when she attempted to scratch Gods eye out. I enjoyed this book the most because there was multiple sentences on each page instead of one sentence on a page. And there was quite a lot of pages.
Another reason why this book was my favourite one is because there was also lots of pictures which made it not boring.

Matariki Star

Today we made a Matariki star because it is the season of Matariki, The Maori New Year.
We made them from card and string and we hung them in the classroom
